The best way to treat piles or hemorrhoids without medication is to take exactly the same measures you should take to prevent them recurring. That's great news - one solution, two great benefits.

The other good news is that the treatment is straightforward.

One of the most important steps is to manage your bodily functions so that you avoid causing constipation. This is because constipation in turn causes over firm stools and requires straining for your body to pass them. That's what causes the damage, pain and irritation to your bowels that is hemorrhoids.

So, to minimize constipation you should manage your food intake so that your stools are loose and soft. There are two key diet items that help to ensure this - fiber and fluids.

Fiber in your food comes largely from vegetables and fruits, and the correct fluids are water and drinks with little or no sugar or caffeine.

Looking at fiber in more detail the foods you should have high on your shopping list are such as fresh fruit, dried fruit, cereals, wholemeal bread, vegetables and raw vegetables. Cooked vegetables lose their fibrous nature and their valuable vitamins. Some sufferers like to a fiber supplement obtainable from health food stores, but this is not essential. And if you do add supplements then it is important to give your body more water to allow it to process the fibre more easily.

On the other hand foods to minimise include white bread, red meat, cheese and ice cream. In addition if you are overweight then take this opportunity to ease back on the quantities you eat so as to return to a great healthy weight and easier bowel movements without piles and hemorrhoids.

As for drinks, the main advice is to drink plenty of fluid whilst minimising strong coffee, pops and sodas and alcohol. Water is great -and it's cheap and readily available.

How much water should you drink each day?

First note that the recommendation is not for just water but all fluids that contain water. So if tea is your thing then each cup of tea counts towards your daily total. Everyone has heard the advice, "Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day." And that's not too far from the truth - it amounts to around 1.9 liters which is close to the national recommendations - and it is easy to remember. Note, too, that your body gains some fluids with your food, but that is taken into account in the recommendations.
If you are of small frame then your required fluid intake can be scaled back. But if you skin shows signs of drying, you are often feeling thirsty or your urine is darker than normal then it's highly likely that, unless you have a medical condition, you need to increase your fluid intake.

The final part of this simple guide about "How to Treat Piles Without Medication" is to take regular exercise. This is particularly important when you are suffering with constipation as regular movement will stimulate the body and help it to perform more naturally. We are not talking about anything extreme here, just a modest increase in your walking to between 7,000 and 10,000 steps each day will help greatly.
