Whether it is your first, or your twentieth, self published book it is important to make sure you have taken into account these five essentials in building your book. If you make little errors or leave simple things out the result will often kill your success opportunity, specially as you learn how to self publish a book.
Here are five important errors you must root out.
1. Poor quality writing
Whenever you start writing, specially when it is an area that's important to you, it is easy to make mistakes in your use of English, punctuation, spelling or typographical errors. By way of an example, the initial pages of your book must hold specific information such as the title, author, copyright, dates of publication, ISBN and other material. The layout of this is quite easy to see from many books that you read. Getting this right shows that you have prepared a professional publication and one that will b emuch better respected. If you are uncertain anything about this layout and its information then consult a professional editor, it is too important to neglect.
2. Book Structure
Your readers will expect your book to be organized by chapters regardless of the content. When you have a book that is either a technical book or an instruction book then your readers will expect a more detailed breakdown into sub chapters and maybe sections. If you do not provide a recognizable structure your reader will find the book too difficult to read and so will not recommend this to others.
3. Continuity
Thepoor relation of publishing. If you are writing a piece of fiction then the carrying forwards consistent characteristics, whether of place or person, is important or else your reader will get very confused. On the other hand, if your book is more technical, than consistent use of fonts and emphasis can help your reader to find and understand the information.
4. Appearance & Layout
The design of your book is helpful in establishing its position in the market as well as making it easy for the reader. The vast majority of paperbacks are softbacked and 7.8" by 5.1"/ 197mm x 130mm in size. Book buyers have shelves for books of that size and so your should fit the pattern - unless there's a special reason. One reason may be that yours is intended to be a regular reference book in which case it can be larger and with a hard back.
The front cover design can be important too, especially in the paperback market. Striking designs can be very effective, but with elements of consistency if you are writing a multi-book series.
5. Marketing and promotion plan
Following the preceding 4 guides you have produced your masterpiece; well done. But no one will beat a path to your door if they do not know that it exists. Yes, your self-publisher will have a website that lists your book, but how do you attract a decent volume of sales? That's why you need a sales and marketing plan. You need to research and carry out your plan well. And if this is foreign territory for you do not hesitate to get some professional assistance. The first thing is to have some tempting advertisement text ready for the publisher's web pages. Next think of who you know and whether they, or their friends, would be interested and let them know about your book and where to buy it. Now look outwards. How can you publicise your book using normal media and the Internet?
By following these notes you will both understand more about How To Self Publish A Book and also be able to improve the quality of your publication and so gain larger sales by effective promotion/advertising.
