Cigars have been linked to many things, rich and high class society, relaxation, rich flavor, and the 'boys club'. Cigar enthusiasts have created a whole new culture based on the art of smoking cigars, talking philosophy, and basically creating excuses to get together and smoke. Similar to wine tasting, cigar smoking has long been associated as a hobby for the upperclassmen of society.
It is widely thought cigars were first developed in Spain, and from there caught on in all over Europe. There are many different countries developing and manufacturing cigars, but Cuban cigars have always been the most popular due to their rich taste. The flavorful taste comes from the high quality of tobacco produced due to the region's climate. The cigar makers in Cuba are also some of the best. There are other countries producing large amounts of tobacco and cigars which include: Mexico, Honduras, Brazil, Ecuador, Cameroon, Dominican Republic, Indonesia, and the United States. What is it that makes cigars so popular? Many believe the main appeal of cigars is the way it is put developed. The highest quality cigars are carefully and individually wrapped by hand. The method of cigar making is much like that of a great wine, a long, fermentation and aging process. This process is what gives the cigar its delicate flavors and textures. The best cigars out there will leave behind no smoky aftertaste.
Cigars have various tastes and textures, unlike cigarettes. Almost all cigars are shaped by wrapping together three layers of tobacco leaves. The high quality cigars are normally made with long leaves of nicotine as filler, but may also contain scraps. This process results in small differences, various textures, and intricate flavors. Cigarettes are always mass-produced with only one kind of tobacco. Cigars can even come in your favorite flavors. The cigar aficionado is able to find any flavor from chocolate and vanilla, to apple or coffee!
Even though cigars are praised for their smooth and versatile flavors, they can be risky to your health. Tobacco contains nicotine and nicotine is associated as a health risk. What exactly does nicotine do? Nicotine is a stimulant which gives the user a quick rush, or a sense of euphoria. Nicotine is highly addictive and is full of toxins, carcinogens, and irritants. The most skilled smokers will avoid inhaling, but they still have an increased risk in developing some form of cancer such as oral or larynx cancer.
