With the economy in the state that it's currently in, it is no surprise that most of us just can't afford to buy a car brand new anymore. You could try and look for a loan, but by far the safest option is to find a used car. There are plenty available, and here is a guide to finding the best one for you.

The first thing you need to do is decide upon the kind of car that you need. If you have a family, then you may be limited to only larger cars that can fit in all the kids. However, you might have very different reasons for using your vehicle in which case you need to think carefully about what kind of car will help you. Even if a car is a great deal, it isn't going to be any use if it doesn't do the job that you need it to.

Once you've got an idea for the kind of car that you need you can now start looking further into what's available. You might have a very specific idea of the kind of car that you would like to own, but do some more research on the makes and models available to give yourself the best possible chance of finding something you like. The internet is great for this purpose, as it can also let you know the common problems experienced with different makes, how long they might last and so on. Bear in mind that these facts are not set in stone.

When looking for a car you are going to have to see it in person. If you don't know much about cars then try to research the basic things to look out for. Firstly, you should always check its mileage - if they are extremely high then you may not want to purchase the car due to the fact that it won't necessarily last much longer. There will also be other obvious things to look out for, including any dents to the car, rust, and other obvious damage. Think about the sound that the car makes when you take it out on a test drive. All of these factors are extremely important in ensuring you get a vehicle that won't cause you a large number of problems down the line.

It might take a little while, but you will soon find a car that just feels right for you. However, don't buy it yet - take it to a mechanic to have it checked out. The mechanic will be a lot more experienced than you, so can warn you of any potential problems that the seller isn't being honest about. Even if you know a thing or two about cars, the mechanic is still a great impartial, trained eye to rely on.

Following all of these tips ensures that you can get the very best deal when it comes to searching for a used car. All it takes is a little time and research into what you should expect, and you can find a car that will fulfill your needs and last you a good few years.
