Most women have come to accept that at some point in their lives they are going to have to deal with the loss of their parents. You form a bond with them from the moment you are brought into the earth and it can be hard to think of them leaving you during your adult years.

In some cases, you are faced with the loss of a parent much sooner than you had anticipated, whether it's due to a natural death, an unfortunate accident, or the appearance of an illness that has claimed your parent's life.

Whatever the particular situation you're facing, chances are you're feeling a number of different emotions that you aren't able to quite recognize. Losing a parent is extremely traumatic and how you go about coping with this loss will play a large role in how well you are able to come to terms with that loss.

Here are some things to remember when you're dealing with losing mom.

Get Family Support

Unless you are an only child, single, and have already lost your other parent, there will always be someone else in your family you can turn to. If you have any siblings, talking about the issue together and forming a support system will be important.

These people will be going through just as much pain as you're experiencing and while they may not be able to offer much in terms of a positive attitude, they will be feeling much the same way as you are and will be able to offer condolence.

You may also want to discuss seeing a therapist with them as well. This can be done with other family members and will prove to be more beneficial. Allow Time To Pass

The saying 'time heals all wounds' may not be something you want to hear right now, but there is some truth to this statement.

There isn't a question that there will be moments in all the years to come where you are reminded of your mother and instantly struck with sadness over the fact that she is no longer with you.

But as time passes and you are able to accept that she is gone, you will also be better able to recognize that she lived a long and happy life and is still with you in your heart.

It will take a different amount of time for different individuals, so be sure you don't rush the grieving process. In many cases it will be months down the road and you'll still form tears at the mere thought of the parent, but in a year or two, these incidences will lessen and while you will still be emotional when thinking of your mom, you will better be able to control that emotion.

Make A Memory Chest

Finally, the last thing that some people find helps them after they have lost a parent is to make a memory chest. This is a chest that you fill with a variety of items that remind you of your mother that you can look at any time you need a reminder of her. Typically this is something you will want to do at a later date after you have been successful with the grieving process and no longer get too emotional at the thought of your mom. The chest can also help you feel closer to her, and even though she is still gone, you can be reminded of her at any point.

So keep this information in mind. This is a very trying point in your life but with the right course of action and support system, you can get past this and continue to live your life, cherishing the memories you do have of your mother and you together.
