Le Marche Wines Achieve Excellence in Wine Making

The best of Le Marche Wines received awards at the annual tastings of the Papillon Club of Italy and have served to highlight an excellent array of white and red wines from Le Marche in the central region of Italy especially from Azienda Agricoa Vini Maravglia.

For the eighth consecutive year the members of the Papillon Club, a nationwide institute seeking excellence in the food and wine industry have included Le Marche wines in the Top Hundred best wines of Italy.

With members situated in all regions of Italy, Le Marche has three offices in Ancona, Pesaro and Ascoli Piceno that organize and search for excellence in the field of food and wine.

For this year, the regions' most rewarded were Campania and Sardinia with a special recommendation for brands in Le Marche region, demonstrating yet again an marked improvement in the quality of the regions' red wines exemplified by growers like Maraviglia a producer of Verdicchio di Matelica and reds from Colli Marche.

In fact, the year's Golosaria award for outstanding achievement from Le Marche region was given to this small but specialised wine maker together with Vini Belisario of Matelica.

From these two producers the wines receiving awards were the Eno label from Belisraio Wines and the Onorio labelfrom Maraviglia Wines. Both produce wine in the Matelica region of Le Marche in central Italy.

The wine making efforts of both wineries has served to boost other producers' passion to introduces new grape varietes and blends for 2010 year. New blends include Lacrima grape variety with Sangiovese, Aged Merlot for more intensity and the introduce of sparkling rose from the Sangiovese grape varieties.

Le Marche wines has been famous for their Verdicchio grape variety but Matelica has always been in the shadow of its neighbour Jesi that produces wine from the same grape under the DOC name of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi. This Verdicchio di Jesi has been succesfully commercialized worldwide but now the producers of Matelica are fighting back by producing excellent red wines to overshadow their neighbours in the red wine segment.

The Eno and Onorio labels and others from the top 100 winners can be tasted from 7 to 9 November at the Melia Hotel & Convention Center in Milan, then from 14th and 15th of November in Turin at the Piazza Crafts.
