A lot of people feel that one of the most rewarding experiences they've enjoyed is growing their own garden. There's no other feeling that's quite like planting something and watching it grow. And what's even better is being able to literally enjoy the fruits of your labor after you've harvested the garden.

By the way, even if there's not enough space in your backyard to grow a garden you still can enjoy gardening by planting your garden in containers. Virtually any plant will grow in a container. And a lot of plants have been bred specifically for container growing. If your container is large enough you can grow a mini garden right on your patio or porch.

And don't despair if you live in an apartment building. Instead of feeling bad, you can ask your landlord if you can plant something like a tomato garden on the roof.

If you want as much free fertilizer as you can get next year you should start a compost pile. So, instead of throwing your tea bags, carrot peels, etc., into the trash or getting rid of them in your garbage disposal you should save them for your compost pile.

Now, if you want to keep slugs away from your tender plants you can do it with beer. Just get an empty plastic soda bottle and cut the bottom two inches off to make a saucer. Next, dig a hole close to your tender plants and put the saucer into it. Leave roughly a quarter of an inch of the "saucer" above the ground.

Fill the saucer with beer and leave it in your garden overnight. The slugs will make their way into it because the slugs will be attracted to the sugar that's in the beer. And once they're in the saucer they will not get out.

Although gardening is a really enjoyable activity it is not always easy. There are lots of factors involved that gardeners need to know in order to make a beautiful garden that produces well.
