If you have developed a habit of drinking sodas over the years and you are still drinking them into you 50s, you have literally added hundreds of pounds to your body. Someone worked out that having a can of soda a day for a year added about thirty-two pounds (14.5 kgs) of sugar to your body. Of course, you are not carrying all those extra pounds as you would have used up some of them in going about you normal daily routine, but many pounds would still be sitting on your stomach. And this is the stomach fat you are trying to lose now.

There are about ten teaspoons of sugar in a standard can of soda. Measure that out in a cup and see just how much that is. If you drink two or three cans a day, keep adding the sugar in the cup. That is a lot of sugar. Over a year that is three thousand, six hundred and fifty (3650) teaspoons of sugar you are feeding your body if you drink one can of soda a day. And that is not counting the sugar you put into your tea or coffee or the sugar in other food you eat. Not only is it adding a whole lot of fat to your stomach it is giving your body no nutritional value at all.

If you did nothing else but give up sodas you would lose weight. Regardless of whatever else you are eating the sugar in sodas is adding to your stomach fat, so just giving that up would help you lose weight. If it has become a habit you are going to have to deal with it like any other bad habit. Start by cutting back. If you have three sodas a day cut down to two for a week. The next week cut down to one. After that work on changing from a daily habit to maybe allowing yourself a soda twice a week. When you are thirsty, drink plenty of water. Drink fresh fruit juice if you can get it.

There is no reason for soft drinks and sodas to be part of your life. There are plenty of other things to drink. If you are looking to quench your thirst, water does this best. If you are looking for a sugar lift or an energy boost, fresh fruit juice will do this - but make sure it is freshly made. Better still, a piece of fresh fruit will give you energy without the fat. Even a small piece of dark chocolate will give you a lift without putting on weight. Make sure it is seventy percent cocoa and it is only a small piece.

It is easy to fall into a habit without even thinking about it. It is very natural to buy food and drink together. That is why many fast food outlets combine food and drink as a package. But if you want to lose your stomach fat, you do have to think about what you can do the change some of your habits. You do have to take control of your lifestyle otherwise you will get the same results you have always had. Cutting down and eventually cutting out sodas is a lifestyle change that will help you lose stomach fat.

Limiting the intake of sugar per day will help you lose stomach fat.You will find more ideas on how to lose stomach fat when you visit http://www.squidoo.com/how-to-lose-stomach-fat-in-your-50s William Burnell enjoys the benefits of following a healthy lifestyle and likes to help others to do the same.
