Your life is a creation of your state of mind. If you're stressed, it is because you have chosen to dwell on stressful thoughts. If you're unhappy with yourself - your weight, your appearance, your shyness, whatever - then it is because you have chosen to wallow in thoughts that tell you that that is how you are. If your relationship has gone cold or if you don't like your work, it is because you have chosen to do nothing about it, preferring to take comfort in the fact that other people are worse off. You may have even chosen to enjoy being a victim. This is what is going on in normal people's heads. These thoughts that create feelings of inadequacy, helplessness, depression and stress have nothing to do with the reality of what is actually going on in your life and, indeed, little to do with your awe-inspiring capacity to do something about it. Whether I draw evidence from the field of psychology or quantum physics, that scientific fact is that you are the creator of your own world. And, unfortunately, what's going on in your world affects the lives of those around you - especially those you claim to love.

Many people tell me that they are suffering from stress - many are unhappy. Indeed, I've yet to meet anyone who is simply 100% happy. Everyone has their hang-ups about themselves and about their lot in life. This unhappiness is nothing other than an accumulation of useless thought. If you are thinking such useless thoughts then you are creating a reality for yourself that is poisonous. Here's a bit of breaking news. If you're not happy NOW, you're missing a unique, once in a lifetime opportunity to be happy - because this now is not only the only place and time you can be - this now will never happen again. Your life is made up of a series of nows. Now is the moment in which you have to be at your very best - if you're not at your best now, what are you waiting for?

How you experience (or, perhaps, not really experience at all) your life, which is a series of nows, is up to you - NOW. You create you world moment to moment, in each now. If you're stressed, it is because, in this now, you have chosen to pay attention to stressful thoughts - it's your own stupidity. If you are unhappy, it's because you chosen to let your unhappy thoughts (some of which may be so deeply subconscious that you're not aware of them) occupy your mind. Stop whining and do something about it. You can start with being present in the here and now. You might then discover that, in reality, you're not unhappy at all. On the other hand, you might realize that you have serious new actions to take in your life - and the only thing that will stop you taking them is fear (which is also a useless thought).

Now is the only place and time there is. The sad fact is that, generally speaking, the normal subconscious mind lives (un)happily in the past - your formative years when you were inoculated with your sense of self and how unfair the world is - whilst your conscious mind is generally wandering, dancing to the tune orchestrated by the 50,000 random useless thoughts that the average adult is plagued by every single day.

You need to drag your attention away from that subconscious and conscious nonsense that has no place in a fuller and wonderful experience of the only place and time there is - now. You can do this - we all can - by paying more attention to the here and now, by slowing down as "smelling the roses"! Indeed, there is far more sense in that saying than you might appreciate because, as adults, we only re-learn how to pay attention to the here and now through the use of our five senses. The rush and bustle of modern life plays into the hands of our destructive inner voices and useless thoughts - we need to give ourselves space and time to appreciate a moment of now, here and there, so that, during the course of our everyday lives we become more attuned to the reality of life, moment to moment. That reality is far removed from the world of toxic self-defeating thought. There is heaven to be found in the here and now - you simply need to give yourself the time, to make the time, to appreciate it.

Five minutes each morning will start the journey. It has to be the morning because your day generally continues the way it started off. Start off dead from the neck up and you're on the normal slippery slope of stress, depression, hassle, self-pity, doubt, fear and all that goes with it. In pausing for a moment of now you will get your head into a different place, a place where you can begin to create that life that your heart desires - no longer dancing to the tune of normal insanity. You will be able to use your innate creative power to fashion a different existence - one that will not only benefit you but that will rub off on those around you - particularly those that you claim to love. After all, only an idiot would create a life that is not perfect - is that what you want?
