I think it's time for a reakoning among those of us Americans who live by such outdated principles as right and wrong, honor and virtue. It's time to recognize that, despite our best efforts to maintain these fundamentals within out country, the momentum now being exerted by the forces of tolerance and secularism is winning the day. What is most troubling is the fact that this is a minority movement pushing a true moral majority right out of their country. I feel certain that most Americans still believe in standing up for right and punishing wrong and that they know how to tell the difference. But they have been suckered by forces from the liberalist realm who have managed to gain credibility for their notion that morality has no place in a "free" society because it discriminates against those who think Americans feel guilty about having moral standards that most have decided to truly just shut up and "go along."
With the good people pretty much silenced it is no wonder we are seeing what we are seeing in our country today. What is the most alarming is the degree to which this attitude of "tolerance for wrong" has worked it's way into the political institutions of America. It's appalling to watch as law enforcement, legislators and even presidents accommodate every form of immoral and illegal behavior. Taking a stand politically against any form of wrong behavior (unless it's some group uniting to fight wrong behavior) will bring a firestorm of criticism and hatred down upon you from the forces of the left. The irony here is the fact that those people hollering the loudest for tolerance are the ones least willing to tolerate those with a belief in moral standards. That in itself should be enough to expose these people for who they really are, yet their power continues to grow as ore and more Americans buy into their assertion that freedom is the absence of rules.
I talk with so many people who truly believe that America is a place where you can do anything you like without regard for any law or moral constraint. According to them it's their right to: play their stereo loud, drive as fast as they want, have their underwear hanging out, curse in public and live here illegally. Naturally, such people, like most of those pushing the tolerance agenda, see no rights accruing to people on the other side of the fence; namely decent, moral types who beat the brunt of their bad behavior and want a civil America in which to live. So the bad guys get to play while the good folks just go away. There's no doubt that when it comes to rights in America today the emphasis is on making sure the bad guys have theirs even if it means taking some away from the good guys. Not an agenda for the continued success of a once great land I don't believe.
Still, I don't think it's too late to turn things around if we could just find a few leaders with the backbone to stand up to the panderers and embrace the principles that made America great. Here is a presidential platform that I'm convinced, were it to be offered ot the American people, would lead to a landslide victory for that candidate:
1.)build a wall on the southern border and stop all illegal immigration.
2.) Enforce the law against all employers hiring illegal workers; fine them accordingly and deport all illegal workers in their employ.
3.) Replace the IRS and the current tax system with a flat tax or a national retail sales tax.
4.) Place term limits on all elected offices.
5.) Phase out the federal welfare system(except maybe for handicapped individuals) and force people to be accountable for their behavior.
6.) Make english the "official" American language and make it a requirement for all citizens wanting to hold a job or vote to speak it.
7.)Stop apologizing for being who we are: a good and moral people who, despite offending some, do ore good for more people than any other nation on earth.
Too bad nobody will run on this platform simply for fear of offending a small minority of people who don't like rules. Too bad, because doing the right thing is always offensive to some. But in the end it rewards the right people.
