Contemporary art has such a variety of art forms. Many people are often interested in art but when it comes to decorating your home or office, few really know what they are actually looking for. Artists use different approaches to create the modern forms of art that we experience today. Some use traditional media such as paintings and drawings while others use modern technology such as digital art. The following are some of the different forms of art you may come across today:

Paintings

Paintings have been around since the Paleolithic age. It is one of the most popular forms of expressive art that has survived through the years. Paintings are still quite valued today. Some of the most notable painters that have paved the way for modern artists to make money through selling art include legends such Picasso, Michelangelo and Vincent Van Gogh among others. Some paintings are designed to depict real life situations and characters while others are abstract and depictive of social and religious elements.

Prints

Just like paintings, prints are also two-dimensional art forms that are created by impressions transferred from one surface to another. Woodcut is one of the earliest examples of printmaking art pieces that originated in the Far East. Today, most artists identify the prints using a number and signature. Print art becomes more interesting depending on the surface it is printed on and the kind of editing on the image to create the print.

Photography

Photography is a contemporary art form that has seen the creative use of image capturing technology. There are creative photographers who have captured amazing masterpieces simply from using a camera and some smart lighting. Some notable photographers of the 21st century include Steve McCurry, David LaChapelle, Art Wolfe, Nick knight and Bruce Weber. One of the reasons why these photographers have been effective at turning images into art that is sought after all over the world is their keen eye for capturing moments that could easily be lost in time.

Craft

Craft making involves turning objects of everyday use into amazing works of art. Sometimes it is also referred to as applied arts or decorative arts. Craft making needs a lot of skilled artistry and manual skill in order to work ordinary items into something amazing. With the advent of mechanization and mass production, the 'Arts and Crafts movement' flourished in the late 19th century to early 20th century, focusing on good design and craftsmanship.

Sculptures

Sculpturing as a form of art has also been around since the Paleolithic age. Today, contemporary artists sculpture a wide variety of materials from wood, stone and even ice. Just like crafts, sculptures also form three-dimensional artwork. However, there are some two-dimensional sculptures where the object is not completely detached from the background surface. This is referred to as relief carving. Artists use techniques such as carving, modeling, casting or assemblage to create sculptures today. The variety of materials used in making sculptures today is also quite vast.
