Please Use Your Cell Phone Responsibly

The cell phone is a great invention that we have all benefited from and with all the recent advancements in technology the cell phone / smart phone has become a necessity. The popularity of cell phones in our society today has changed the way people interact and communicate with each other. Whenever it's possible many people will opt to texting rather than communicating face to face with someone. There are people who would prefer to play their favorite video games on their cell phone when they are bored rather than to socialize with another person.

Cell phone use can become addictive and whenever this occurs you not only put your life in danger but the lives of others as well. When someone's driving and the phone rings or they get a text message, rather than waiting until they have arrived at their destination to respond to the phone call or text message. They chose to do it while they are driving and this is a dangerous practice that occurs everyday in our society. These people will often try to defend their actions by saying "I'm good at multi-tasking, I can talk and drive at the same time and I can do it well, it's not a problem for me, trust me I do it all the time." Even though they may have been doing this for a long time without having any accidents. This doesn't mean that it's okay for them to continue doing it, because one time is all it takes. Regardless of how well a person can drive when they are focused, it's completely different when they are driving while being distracted by a cell phone. Many accidents occur on a regular basis that could have been easily prevented if the person didn't choose to answer the phone call or text message while they were driving.

A research study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration discovered that 2% of drivers between the ages of 18 to 20 said that texting has no effect on their driving, and almost 30% of the drivers between the ages of 21 to 34 said that texting has no impact what so ever on their ability to drive. Those statistics are scary, because these people do not realize the dangers involved with distracted driving. The U.S Department of Transportation claims that in 2014 3,129 people were killed as a result of distracted driving.

Then there's the person who is running or walking quickly through a busy intersection and they choose to take a phone call or respond to a text message or email while they are crossing the street. Many people have been hit by cars when crossing the street and using their cell phone simultaneously this is another dangerous practice that puts people's lives in danger. We must be responsible when using our cell phones whether we are driving a car or walking down the street, we must remember that using our cell phones at the wrong time can literally get us killed. No text message, email, or phone call is worth the life of a person. So if you're driving or walking down the street and you really need to use your cell phone you should come to a full stop before using your phone, then proceed to your destination when you're finished.
