Product Recommendations For Your Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing has many ways for you to increase and improve both your sales and commissions. This is not esoteric knowledge, all of the information you need is readily available online. In this article, we will look at one such method just to show you how easy it is to implement.

The method we are talking about is Product Recommendations. Although this is a simple strategy it is one that should be handled with care because it is all about your online reputation. Get it wrong and you could undermine your whole affiliate business.

It is assumed you have built a list and regularly communicate with that list by offering tips, information etc. The whole purpose for you doing this is to build rapport and trust with your customers. When your customers or visitors trust you either as an authority or go to person, then your sales can skyrocket.

So if and when you decide to promote an affiliate product you will need to make sure that you have personally reviewed the product comprehensively. This may require that you actually purchase the product, but this may not be practical if the products you are promoting are large or very expensive physical product.

If the products are digital then this is usually less of a problem since the vendor will usually either give you a copy, sell you a copy at a reduced price or just provide you with some sample sections.

Either way you will still need to carry out your due diligence. This can be done in numerous ways such as:

Buying and reviewing the product.
Obtaining all of the sales literature and studying it.
Going online to market product forums.
Setting up your own blog for Q & A to gather users views.
Check out testimonials and endorsements for authenticity.
Check out the customer service and support for the product.
Checking out competitors review pages and comments.

There are many other ways that can be utilized to review a product and provide your customer list with brand authority. Remember, it is on your say so that people will buy; get it wrong and it is your reputation that will suffer, not the vendors.

Since it is your reputation on the line, don't be afraid to mention any aspects of the product that you consider to be negative or likely to give your prospects less than the best experience or value.

You may think that doing this will lose you a sale and that may actually be the case, but it will increase your trust level with your prospects, they will then come back to you when they want to look at alternatives. This is where you can capitalize on your authority.

If you want some evidence of this actually working then go to one of the many affiliate review platforms and see how professional affiliates cover a particular niche. For example let us look at "camping tents." An experienced affiliate will certainly have a review page that he or she promotes online, containing numerous tent products from various manufacturers / suppliers. Each product will have its own review outlining the pros and cons of the product.

Please note, the affiliate's review page will not have any products on show that have blatant negative issues. Just filling a review site with a product, just to pad it out, is a very bad idea.

The beauty of such a review page is the affiliate is perceived as an authority on the subject and the customer or prospect will be more inclined to purchase a recommended product off that review page. This model works particularly well with the Amazon platform as Amazon is already seen as an authority for quality, service and value.

Providing honest reviews and recommendations without any hype or hyperbole will always pay dividends, if not immediately then further down the line at a later date.

Another useful tactic you can use to enhance your authority and reassure your prospects is to provide freebie samples of the product. This will only work with a certain type of product such as ebooks, consumables etc. It can, however, be adapted in subtle ways e.g. if you are promoting large physical products then you make or provide a review video or send literature. This is also a great way to get a prospect's email and build your list.

As stated at the beginning, this is not rocket science but it needs to be handled like TNT... very carefully.
