Paintings and drawings are flexible forms of art that you can use to decorate anything from your bedroom, hotel room, school corridors or even hospital walls. Commissioned artists are the kind of artists who create art pieces based on the specifications of their clients. They use a variety of artistic media for paintings such as;
Oil paints are slow drying paints and this usually depends on the viscosity of the paint. Artists use solvents such as white spirit or turpentine to the oil paints to make it more viscous. Dried oil paints are very glossy and shiny, although varnish may be added to increase the glossiness. Oil paints have been used by artists since the early 12th century for decorations and rose to become a widely adopted medium for artists in the 15th century. Oil paint can be used on surfaces such as wood, paper canvas and metal among others.
Unlike oil paints, acrylic paints are fast drying. They are water-soluble so artists can use water to thin the solution when working with acrylic paints. The unique quality of acrylic paints is that it becomes water resistant when dry. Acrylic paint art can be made to resemble both watercolor and oil paintings depending on the materials used to modify it. It can also create unique characteristics that are not comparable to other artistic media.
This is a type of water media paint that is usually opaque in color. It can be rewet just like watercolor. This kind of paint is infused with a support instead of forming a superficial layer on the painted surface. It dries to a matt finish though glossing is possible with an additional finishing material.
Conte sticks or conte crayons are made of compressed powdered graphite or charcoal mixed with a wax or clay base. Conte crayons are very cost effective in production making them very affordable for most artists. They are used to create artistic drawings.
The airbrush is a more modern form of art media. The air operated tool can spray paint, ink or dye using the process of nebulization. Spray painting for instance; often characteristic of graffiti like art pieces is based on the concept of the airbrush.
Pastels create permanent artwork, especially with archival considerations such as using lightfast pigments, using acid free paper or mounting the artwork under glass without letting the glass get in contact with the artwork. Spraying the finished pieces with a fixative can also make pastel art pieces last longer.
This dry art medium can create a lot of interesting artwork pieces. But most art created using charcoal is usually in black and white forms, unless combined with other media. Artists' charcoal is particularly desirable to artists due to the rough texture that results from it. Fixatives are also used with charcoal drawings to make them last longer and for preventing the charcoal particles from being rubbed off.
